Dennis de Coetlogon (1700 circa – 23 ottobre 1749) era un medico francese trasferitosi in Inghilterra intorno al 1727. È meglio conosciuto come l'autore di An Universal History of Arts and Sciences, il nome per le enciclopedie in Gran Bretagna. Il suo piano fu seguito dall'Encyclopædia Britannica, che teneva insieme argomenti importanti, ma dall'altro facilitava il riferimento con numerosi e brevi articoli separati disposti in ordine alfabetico. L'opera di Coetlogon "si sforza di rendere ogni trattato il più completo possibile, evitando soprattutto inutili ripetizioni, e senza mai sconcertare il lettore con il minimo riferimento".
